The story
A Midsummer Night’s Dream follows four young Athenians whose romantic entanglements lead them into a magical forest, where fairies rule and mischief reigns. Hermia loves Lysander, but her father insists she marry Demetrius. When Hermia and Lysander run away, Demetrius follows—pursued by Helena, who loves him.
In the forest, fairy king Oberon and his playful servant Puck use a love potion to meddle with the lovers’ hearts, causing confusion and chaos.
Meanwhile, a group of tradesmen rehearses a play for the Duke’s wedding. One of them, Bottom, is transformed to have a donkey’s head and becomes the object of Queen Titania’s magically-induced affection. Eventually, Oberon undoes the enchantments, setting things right.
The lovers return to Athens and are married alongside Duke Theseus and Hippolyta. The tradesmen perform their comically bad play, and the fairies bless the unions. Puck ends by inviting the audience to think of it all as a dream.

"My love for Shakespeare began in primary school, watching my mum and brother perform Romeo & Juliet. I was captivated by the language and magic of the stage. That passion grew through performing in The Tempest, As You Like It, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and training with the Australian Shakespeare Company.
Directing Shakespeare has always been a dream, and when Misfit Theatre gave me the chance, I grabbed it with both hands. A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a rich, whimsical landscape full of love, magic, and comedy. I wanted to lean into its dreamlike qualities with a psychedelic twist—using a round stage, immersive soundscapes, and glowing lights to bring the forest alive.
This production is a true community effort, built with love, energy, and creativity from everyone involved. I hope it sparks your imagination, reminds you of your dreams, and leaves you enchanted."
